The scope of mandatory government-funded tests for pregnant women has been expanded
The scope of mandatory prenatal tests under the state-funded program for pregnant women has been expanded. This was reported by the Ministry of Health.
Starting December 1, 2024, the tests will include Glucose Tolerance Test, Thyroid-stimulating Hormone (TSH) measurement, and Group B streptococcus screening.
What do these tests involve? For example, the glucose tolerance test is used to detect “hidden” disturbances in carbohydrate metabolism. Thyroid-stimulating hormone stimulates the production and secretion of thyroid hormones, and its levels may slightly rise during pregnancy. Group B streptococcus is a bacterium that causes conditions such as angina, impetigo, and inflammation of the kidneys and joints.
Previously, these tests were performed only when indicated.
According to the Ministry, early detection of at-risk groups will contribute to a successful pregnancy outcome, safe childbirth, and the birth of healthy children.
