Starting today, it is possible to make payments on buses using bank cards
During the operational meeting of the Yerevan City Council, Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan announced that starting today, payments on buses and minibuses can be made using physical bank cards issued by Armenian banks.
However, such payments are not yet available in the metro. Authorities assure that this feature will soon be implemented in the metro as well.
Grigoryan clarified that no transaction fees will be charged from the bank cards for these payments. The fees will be covered by the “Telcell” company. Despite this, the deputy mayor encouraged people to confirm the details with their respective banks.
Mayor Tigran Avinyan noted that payments via NFC systems (Apple Pay, Google Pay) are not yet possible. But this will also be available soon.
During the meeting, Grigoryan mentioned that 15 new trolleybuses will be deployed on routes by December 2. Additionally, by January 1 at the latest, 171 new 8.6-meter-long buses, already in Armenia, will also begin operating on routes.
It is worth noting that a unified ticketing system will be launched in Yerevan starting January 1. According to the approved plan, the fare for a single trip will be 300 AMD. The municipality also proposes special packages: children under 7, orphaned schoolchildren and students, people with first or second-degree disabilities, national heroes, families with four or more children, and those under state care will be able to use public transport free of charge. In other cases, certain discount packages will apply: schoolchildren will receive a 20% discount (7,040 AMD per month with a card-based subscription), pensioners 30% (6,160 AMD), students 15% (7,480 AMD), and welfare beneficiaries 20% (7,040 AMD).
