It is forecasted that Armenia’s national debt will exceed 13 billion dollars

Marina Sobolevskaya, the head of the Eurasian Development Bank’s countries’ analytical center, stated that the current volume of Armenia’s national debt does not pose a threat to the economy.

Last month, it was reported that Armenia’s domestic and external debts had almost equalized. According to data published by the Ministry of Finance, it becomes clear that from June to September, the domestic debt increased by approximately 300 million dollars, reaching 6.205 billion dollars.

While the external debt had increased during the June-August period, it decreased by about 4 million dollars in September compared to August, totaling 6.295 billion dollars. Overall, Armenia’s national debt is 12.496 billion dollars.

According to the EADB’s forecast, Armenia’s national debt will grow from 5.037 trillion drams at the end of 2024 to 5.914 trillion drams by the end of 2025 (approximately 13.972 billion dollars, according to the Ministry of Finance’s exchange rate). The debt-to-GDP ratio will rise from 49.8% to 53.5%. Debt servicing costs, including loan and bond payments, will total 394.1 billion drams (approximately 1.015 billion dollars).
