Protests against the government continue in Georgia

It is the 9th day of protests in Georgia. Clashes have again occurred between demonstrators and the police. Dozens of citizens have been detained. Media reports indicate that in Tbilisi, law enforcement used tear gas and water cannons.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs insists that the authorities dispersed the rally after some protesters engaged in violent actions.

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze warned that “any violation of the law will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.” He added that the country will continue its path towards European integration, but has rejected the “shameful and insulting blackmail” that hindered this process. The country’s EU membership is expected in 2030.

Thousands of citizens are protesting in Tbilisi, demanding the government’s resignation, with clashes with law enforcement accompanying the demonstrations.
