There is already an agreement on 15 out of the 17 articles of the peace agreement: Mirzoyan
There is already an agreement on 15 out of the 17 articles of the peace agreement. This was stated by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in an interview with the Finnish news agency Lännen Media.
I believe that we could have finalized and signed the agreement even before the COP29 climate summit held in Baku. Unfortunately, this did not happen, but now we are ready to do so within a short timeframe. One could say that this is a moment of hope. I would say we are very close.
He also noted that Armenia is ready to sign the peace agreement with Azerbaijan within a short timeframe.
But despite the tragic past of our two states and societies, there is an opportunity to turn the page of enmity. The past has been difficult. It is hard to comprehend, forget, forgive, but enough blood has been shed in our region, and now we have the opportunity to look towards the future.
Several senior officials of Armenia, including the President, Prime Minister, and Speaker of the National Assembly, have expressed their readiness. In the peace agreement, Azerbaijan demands amendments to Armenia’s Constitution. They argue that there are clauses in Armenia’s Constitution regarding Azerbaijani territories.
In October, Mirzoyan announced that significant progress had been made in the process of signing the peace agreement. Azerbaijan has rejected signing the agreement with the already agreed-upon points and addressing disputed issues afterward. However, negotiations will continue, and the peace agreement will be signed as soon as possible.
