
Weightlifting World Championships: The former European champion scored 0 in the clean and jerk exercise
At the World Weightlifting Championships in the capital of Bahrain, Manama, Andranik Karapetyan scored zero in the clean and jerk event.
Karapetyan began the snatch with 170 kg. For the second attempt, the national team’s head coach, Pashik Alaverdyan, ordered 175 kg. However, the former European champion failed to lift it. In the third attempt, Karapetyan again could not lift the 175 kg barbell. In this event, Karapetyan finished in 4th place.
In the clean and jerk, Karapetyan started with 201 kg but failed on his first attempt. He increased the weight by 2 kg for the second attempt but was unable to hold the weight overhead. The third attempt was also unsuccessful. The 28-year-old weightlifter scored zero in this event.
The winner in this weight category was Bulgarian athlete Karlos Nasar. He registered a total result of 403 kg.
