Students have returned to schools in Syria
Schools in Syria reopened today, December 15. This was reported by Reuters.
In the morning, students gathered in the yard of Damascus Boys’ Secondary School and applauded as the school’s secretary, Raed Nasser, raised the new flag adopted by the authorities. Nasser stated that the school had not been damaged.
However, some parents chose not to send their children to school. Additionally, for the first time since the change of government, Syrian Christians attended regular Sunday religious services today.
It is worth recalling that on December 8, fighters from the Syrian opposition announced that the country had been “liberated.” Following this, President Bashar al-Assad fled the capital. He has been granted asylum by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On October 8, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali also declared the government’s willingness to transfer power peacefully, adding that they were ready to cooperate with any leadership elected by the people.
