Possibility of Direct Flights Between Armenia and the USA Discussed

Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Davit Khudatyan, and US Ambassador Christine Quinn have discussed the possibility of launching direct flights to the United States. Work is ongoing in this direction.

In September 2024, during a National Assembly session, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Armen Simonyan announced that the ministry is considering direct flights from Yerevan to Los Angeles and Yerevan to New York.

He stated that discussions have been held regarding these direct flights. There are legislative challenges that need to be addressed, including how to proceed with issues like flight codes, EU airspace access, and other technical matters. The deputy minister expressed optimism that progress would be made on this issue.

In November 2008, an “Open Skies” agreement was signed between Armenia and the United States in the field of air transportation. It was initially expected that the first direct flight would be possible by the end of 2009.

In 2017, the Armenian National Committee of America launched a petition for direct flights between Los Angeles and Yerevan in both directions. Afther that no response has been received since.
