Construction of Ajapnyak Metro Station Delayed Again

The construction of Yerevan’s Ajapnyak metro station has been postponed once more. Now it slated to begin in 2026. This update was shared by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan during his year-end press conference.

In March 2024, during a meeting at the Yerevan Municipality, the mayor announced that construction was planned to start in 2024.

Avinyan detailed the steps taken so far. He noted that preliminary project reviews, environmental impact assessments, and comprehensive evaluations are currently underway, negotiations with the Eurasian Fund are also in an active phase. By next year, the municipality expects to have the results of the comprehensive assessments, a complete feasibility study, and a positive conclusion from the government’s investment committee by the first quarter, and by the end of the year, they aim to secure a contractor to commence construction.

Talks about building the Ajapnyak metro station began in March 2022. In October of the same year, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that construction would begin in 2024. At the time, the government allocated 11 billion AMD for project design work.

It is noted that the Yerevan Municipality is negotiating with the Eurasian Development Bank to finance the construction of the Ajapnyak metro station.
