Armenian Border Guards Assume Control of the Agarak Checkpoint
From now on, border control at the Agarak checkpoint on the Armenia-Iran state border will be carried out solely by the Border Guard Troops of the Republic of Armenia. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this, expressing gratitude to the Russian border guards for their more than 30 years of service.
According to Pashinyan, this change marks a new chapter in the management of state border control, emphasizing the role and responsibility of Armenian border guards. The head of government wished them success in their mission.
It is worth noting that Russian border guards had been serving in Armenia based on an agreement signed in 1992. In recent years, the involvement of Armenian border guards in protecting the country’s borders has gradually increased, and starting in 2025, they will also serve on the Armenia-Turkey border.
