Elina Avanesyan Starts with a Victory at the WTA-250 Tournament
Elina Avanesyan, representing Armenia, began the WTA-250 series tournament in Hobart, Australia, with a victory.
Ranked 44th in the world, Avanesyan defeated China’s Xiyu Wang (ranked 108th) in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. The match lasted 1 hour and 35 minutes. In the next round, Avanesyan will face Greet Minnen of Belgium, who is ranked 94th.
The prize fund for the Hobart tournament is $275,000.
Prior to this, the Armenian tennis player participated in the “Brisbane International presented by Evie” tournament, held from December 29 to January 5. She began her run in the round of 64 but was eliminated in the round of 16. Avanesyan earned $17,750 from that tournament.
