Fires in Los Angeles: Casualties and Injuries Reported
The wildfires that broke out on January 7 in Los Angeles have caused significant damage to the city and surrounding areas. According to the latest reports, at least five people have died, approximately 70,000 residents have been evacuated, and more than 1,000 structures have been destroyed. Official data indicates that over 300,000 Armenians reside in Los Angeles and its vicinity.
The fires have spread to the western regions of the city, including Pasadena, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Malibu, and Sylmar. Strong winds and dry weather have accelerated the rapid spread of the flames, complicating firefighting efforts. Among the affected structures is Pasadena’s “Sahak-Mesrop Armenian Christian” school, which has been completely destroyed.
Los Angeles authorities have declared a state of emergency and warned residents of possible evacuations. More than 13,000 buildings remain at risk due to the fires. Officials are urging residents to follow safety instructions.
Authorities report that due to strong winds and low humidity, the fires continue to spread to new areas, threatening all settlements in the region.
