Nikol Pashinyan Presents Armenia’s Proposal for Establishing Peace in the Region

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has shared Armenia’s proposal for establishing peace in the region on Facebook.

Pashinyan proposes to mutually refrain from escalatory rhetoric, continue the delimitation process based on the delimitation attempt carried out in the Berkaber-Voskepar section and the regulations established by the joint work of the border delimitation commissions of the two countries, and sign a Peace Treaty, which, according to the Prime Minister, is 90% complete.

Pashinyan once again emphasized the importance of implementing the “Crossroads of Peace” project. He noted that it would resolve the issue of connecting Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan through the territory of the Republic of Armenia and Armenia to Armenia through the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Among his points, Pashinyan proposed introducing a joint mechanism for investigating ceasefire violations. The Prime Minister had announced this initiative back in June, but Baku has not responded to it so far.

Pashinyan also proposes to “fully resolve the issue of detainees, work with full intensity to clarify the fate of persons considered missing, renounce mutual claims, including but not limited to those in international courts, work on the comprehensive and effective implementation of the points of the Peace Treaty, establish mechanisms for negotiations on mutual arms control, quotas, and usage restrictions, and comprehensively address issues related to refugees from both countries by forming a joint professional and expert commission after the establishment of peace.”

As his final point, Pashinyan suggests dissolving the OSCE Minsk Group, which was established on March 24, 1992, to facilitate the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
