Operations of 120 Gas Stations, Petrol Stations, and Fuel Storage Facilities Halted in 2024

During a year-end press conference in 2024, Garegin Khachatryan, Head of the Urban Development, Technical, and Fire Safety Inspection Authority, reported that the activities of 120 gas stations, petrol stations, and liquid fuel storage facilities operating with violations were halted across Armenia.

Of these, 27 facilities were dismantled as they were built on state or community-owned lands. Between 2023 and 2024, operations at approximately 230 facilities were suspended, with 60 being dismantled.

The main reasons for dismantling included the presence of aboveground fuel storage tanks in production facilities, which is prohibited by law within administrative areas of settlements. Additionally, some gas and petrol stations were constructed in close proximity to residential buildings, schools, and similar structures. The lack of lightning protection systems and fire hydrants also served as grounds for suspension or cessation of operations.

The Head further noted that over 95% of technical and fire safety violations in major commercial facilities in Armenia have been rectified, the inspection body conducted more than 2,300 inspections and investigations. It was identified over 4,500 violations.
