In penitentiary institutions, it will be possible to use the shower twice a week
The Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice has carried out work to improve hygiene as part of ongoing reforms.
The rule for using the shower in penitentiary institutions was once a week. With the improved conditions, inmates in around 10 penitentiary institutions in Armenia will now be allowed to use the shower twice a week. As noted by the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice, this will significantly improve the conditions for maintaining personal hygiene.
In August of last year, legal expert David Gyurjyan of the Legal Development and Protection Foundation mentioned that in the “Nubarashen” penitentiary, both the rooms for conducting investigative actions, the rooms for private meetings with attorneys, and the short-term and long-term visitation rooms are in deplorable condition.
The expert also pointed out that there is no designated area for walks in the penitentiary.
