EU High Representative Kaja Kallas to Visit Armenia

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, will visit Armenia in the coming days. This was announced by Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Paruyr Hovhannisyan, during a session of the National Assembly’s Committee on European Integration on January 24.

On January 9, the Armenian government approved the draft law on initiating the process of Armenia’s accession to the European Union. The draft could be discussed in the National Assembly if more than 50,000 signatures were collected. Between July 22 and November 2024, the initiators gathered over 60,000 signatures.

The draft law on initiating Armenia’s EU accession process has been included in the agenda of the National Assembly’s plenary sessions on February 11.

Earlier, EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos stated that the European Union is preparing to study Armenia’s accession request. He also noted that the EU is working to deepen its relations with Armenia.
