Refrigeration Facilities Built in Bazum Village
A refrigeration facility is being put into operation in the village of Bazum, part of the Pambak community. From now on, residents will have the opportunity to store their harvested crops throughout the year, avoiding the risk of spoilage. The facility will serve not only Bazum but also the neighboring settlements.
According to Bazum’s administrative head, Artur Tsatryan, the refrigeration facility is being developed in 3 phases: construction, training, and operation. The construction phase has already been completed, and soon, local residents and cooperative members will learn how to operate the facility. The facility is expected to become fully operational in the spring.
The refrigeration units cover an area of 30 square meters. By February 6, we will have training sessions where we will learn how to use the facility. The cooperative was established specifically for storing the village’s crops, meaning it will be more affordable for local residents. However, if the facility is rented out to others, there will be a price difference. These details are not yet finalized, but that is our plan, – stated the administrative head.
He also noted that residents typically transport small quantities of their produce to Vanadzor or sell it to the “Van Food” canning factory. The refrigeration facility was established to better manage this process.
We will purchase produce from residents and resell it to our canning factory. As a result, locals will save on transportation costs and time. Our village produces large quantities of apples, pears, cherries, and plums. Now, our residents have a place to store their harvest, eliminating the risk of spoilage. Before launching the project, we consulted with the locals to understand what crops they grow so that we could use the land efficiently. As a result, the ‘Shen’ charitable foundation provided residents with seedlings of various vegetables and fruits, – Artur Tsatryan added.
The project was implemented with joint funding from the “Shen” charitable foundation and the “Bazum Vitamins” agricultural cooperative.
