Arman Babajanyan charged for ignoring Court demands

Former Member of the National Assembly (MP) Arman Babajanyan faces the threat of criminal liability for failing to execute court decisions that have entered into legal force for more than three years.

It should be recalled that Babajanyan lost a court case to the party Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF). In a public speech, he described the party as “a force known for its terrorist past that continues to wage partisan battles against the state.” The court ordered him to retract his statements, apologize, and cease making defamatory remarks, but Babajanyan refused to comply with the ruling. He also refused to comply with a verdict issued against him concerning Khosrov Harutyunyan, again on the grounds of defamation.

Due to these circumstances, Babajanyan has been charged under Part 1 of Article 507 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia for non-execution of court acts.

Babajanyan commented on the issue, stating that he is ready to publicly reiterate his words:

“When it concerns the state and the dignity of the citizen, silence is complicity. Whoever considers terrorism, violence, and blackmail as a means of political struggle must be thrown out of the political field,” the post reads.

Babajanyan emphasized the necessity of comprehensive vetting in the judicial system, including checking biographies, the legality of property, conflicts of interest, and external influences.
