16 Groups Committing Thefts from Cars Have Been Identified

The number of thefts from cars in Armenia has decreased in the first 9 months of 2024, but the issue remains concerning. This was reported by Minister of Internal Affairs (IA) Arpine Sargsyan.

According to her, 1,443 cases were registered during the 9-month period, which is 5.4% less compared to the same period last year.

“Through courtyard patrol services at various times of the day, 16 groups committing multi-episode thefts and 4 criminal groups committing extortion were uncovered,” Minister Sargsyan stated, emphasizing that these results are not satisfactory because the crimes continue to occur.

According to the Minister, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has introduced a legislative initiative that has tightened the criminal liability for the theft of components, devices, or equipment of vehicles. If previously such acts were considered minor offenses, they are now classified as crimes of medium gravity.
