Armenia to Receive EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan

The Government of Armenia will officially be handed the Visa Liberalization Action Plan with the European Union in the coming days. This was announced by Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan during budget discussions at the National Assembly.

According to the Minister, the plan will make it possible to clarify the measures that need to be implemented by Armenia’s state bodies within the framework of reforms. Arpine Sargsyan emphasized that the process is actively underway, and the parties aim to ensure the transition to visa liberalization as quickly and effectively as possible.

The MIA (Minister of Internal Affairs) also touched upon the progress of introducing biometric passports and identification cards: the designs of the cards and the regional offices have already been approved, preparatory work for contractual agreements has been completed, and the work on reviewing building conditions will begin in the first half of 2026.

The Minister noted that during the implementation of the new system, priority will be given to managing waiting times and queues, which will contribute to a more comfortable and faster organization of passport services.

Armenia and the EU began a dialogue on visa liberalization in September 2024, and since then, numerous meetings and mutual visits have taken place with the aim of rapid advancement of the process.
