The Alleged Visit of Donald Trump Jr. to Armenia

Since November 1, unconfirmed information has been actively disseminated in the media suggesting that Donald Trump Jr. was planning to visit Armenia on November 12. The scope of the announced visit included exploring business interests as well as holding meetings with various circles of the Armenian authorities. However, it is noteworthy that this information was never officially confirmed or denied by any official party, neither in the United States nor in Armenia.

Today, November 10, Arman Babajanyan, the Chairman of the “For the Republic” party, made an official statement announcing that Donald Trump Jr.’s visit has been canceled. Babajanyan also specified that the reason for the failed visit was the interference of Armenian oligarchs operating in Russia.

However, this development raises several critical questions. Was such a high-profile visit ever genuinely scheduled at an official level, given the complete lack of official confirmation? And, if the cancellation is real, is the “Russian trace” presented by Babajanyan not a political signal aimed at the recently established Armenian opposition movements, particularly against the activities they have been developing in the United States? The accusation points to the potential political influence of the Russian-Armenian factor on the developing pro-Western ties in Armenia, which requires further clarification.
