Court Extends Bagrat Galstanyan’s Detention for Another Three Months

The examination of the criminal case concerning Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, the leader of the “Holy Struggle” movement, continued in the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction.

The court, presided over by Judge Karen Farkhoyan, satisfied the motion of Prosecutor Hayk Hovhannisyan, extending Galstanyan’s detention for another three months.

During the session, Galstanyan’s defense lawyer, Hovhannes Khudoyan, stated that the detention is based on false evidence. According to him, keeping Archbishop Bagrat in a penitentiary institution is a disgrace to Armenia’s law enforcement system and justice.

It should be recalled that Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, the leader of the Aragatsotn Diocese, was arrested on the night of June 25-26.

According to a report by the Investigative Committee, a number of leaders and participants of the “Holy Struggle” movement are accused of organizing actions aimed at seizing power and planning terrorist acts.

The investigation of the case continues.
