Perpetrators of violence in Armenia to be placed under mandatory electronic monitoring

The National Assembly adopted a draft package of amendments to the law on the prevention of domestic and household violence in the second reading.

It has been established that the person who committed violence will be obligated to wear an electronic monitoring device, both during the stages of urgent intervention and the execution of protection orders. While previous amendments provided for the possibility of using electronic monitoring tools, the obligation itself had not been defined.

According to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan, the state will receive an additional tool to control that the person who committed violence does not violate the restrictions. The electronic device will help effectively monitor the person’s movement and prevent possible new incidents.

The law also provides for liability in cases where an individual refuses or avoids wearing the monitoring device.

The amendments will enter into force starting from March 1, 2026.
