Armenian Experts Travel to Azerbaijan by Direct Flight; Delegation Members Announced

For the first time since the collapse of the USSR, an Armenian aircraft has landed in Baku, at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, as a group of Armenian experts has arrived in Azerbaijan. The representatives who arrived in Baku are Boris Navasardyan, Honorary President of the Yerevan Press Club; political scientists Areg Kochinyan, Narek Minasyan, and Samvel Meliksetyan; and human rights activist Naira Sultanyan.

The visit was organized within the framework of the continuation of the dialogue between civil society representatives of Yerevan and Baku. The Government of Armenia allocated 17 million 550 thousand drams to ensure the participation of five Armenian experts in the round table discussion to be held in Baku on November 21–22, as well as to organize the Yerevan–Baku–Yerevan charter flight.

The substantiation for the government’s decision notes that participation in the discussion should activate contacts between Armenian and Azerbaijani civil society representatives and contribute to the creation of new mechanisms for building trust between the two peoples.

It should be recalled that at the end of October, a bilateral round table discussion involving the heads of NGOs from Armenia and Azerbaijan had already taken place in Yerevan, which was also attended by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan.
