Attempt to Smuggle Drugs from Iran to Armenia Thwarted
The National Security Service (NSS) of the Republic of Armenia (RA) has uncovered a case of smuggling particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs from Iran to Armenia.
RA citizens A.M. and S.S., having reached a preliminary agreement with an Iranian citizen, organized the transfer of drugs to Armenia on November 10 for subsequent sale.
The criminal group received a large batch of narcotics from the Iranian citizen in the border zone of the Armenian-Iranian state border and attempted to transport it to Yerevan. However, the operation was uncovered in time, and the suspects were arrested by employees of the NSS Syunik Regional Department.
A total of 26 kilograms of narcotics were found in citizen A.M.’s car: 4.690 kg of “Methamphetamine” and 20.842 kg of “Marijuana.”
Searches were also conducted at the suspects’ residences during the preliminary investigation. As a result, two loaded pistols, various doses of narcotics intended for sale (“Methamphetamine” and “Marijuana”), counterfeit banknotes, suspicious vials, electronic scales, and used syringes were discovered.
Public criminal prosecution has been initiated against the two citizens; detention was applied to them as a measure of restraint.
