Alen Simonyan discusses the border delimitation process and reveals new details

There are no changes in the agenda of the border delimitation process. This was stated by the President of the National Assembly (NA) of the Republic of Armenia (RA), Alen Simonyan, in a press briefing following the conference “Ethical Standards in Guaranteeing Equality and Non-Discrimination” dedicated to the International Day for the Protection of Human Rights.

When asked about the specific section in question, the NA President did not give a clear answer, noting that it is too early to discuss timelines. At the same time, he considered it probable that the next section would be delimited in the first quarter of 2026.

To recall, the last meeting of the delimitation commissions took place on November 28 in Azerbaijan. During the preceding discussion on January 16, the parties had agreed to start the complex delimitation work from the northern section—the junction point of the borders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia—and proceed south to the border with Iran.

On September 5, 2025, reciprocal visits of delegations from the two countries took place, led by the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Mher Grigoryan, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev. The official statement noted that the parties discussed issues related to the delimitation and demining of the corresponding sections of the border line, as well as the deadlines for the restoration and construction of necessary infrastructure, with the aim of synchronizing actions in the field of creating communications. It should be noted that the delegations of Armenia and Azerbaijan announced visits to the “southern territories of Syunik Province and Zangilan region.”

Despite the circulating information, the parties have not yet clarified in which section the delimitation will continue.
