Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan to be Transferred to “Izmirlian” Medical Center

Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan, the Primate of the Shirak Diocese, will be transferred from the “Yerevan-Kentron” Penitentiary Institution to the “Izmirlian” Medical Center. This information was reported by his defender, Ara Zohrabyan.

According to him, the transfer is scheduled for Monday, December 15. We had previously reported that His Holiness Mikael, who is held in the “Yerevan-Kentron” Penitentiary Institution (PI), expressed a desire to undergo surgery at the “Izmirlian” Medical Center (MC) at his own expense, concerning which Ara Zohrabyan had sent a letter to the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) of the Republic of Armenia (RA).

On December 11, it became known that the “Penitentiary Medical Center” State Non-Commercial Organization (SNCO) offered to organize the necessary surgery within the framework of the system.

It should be recalled that Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan was sentenced on October 3 to two years of imprisonment under Part 2 of Article 442 of the RA Criminal Code for making public calls aimed at seizing power, violating territorial integrity, renouncing sovereignty, or violently overthrowing the constitutional order.
