Paid parking areas to be established near border checkpoints to reduce queues

The Government of the Republic of Armenia (RA) has decided to organize paid parking areas adjacent to border automobile checkpoints to reduce truck queues and accelerate the crossing process. These changes are planned through a supplement to the Law “On Customs Regulation.”

An electronic queue management system will also operate at the parking areas, allowing drivers to pre-register, queue up, and receive permission for the border crossing. It is expected that as a result, queues and congestion in the checkpoint area will decrease. The work of customs and border services will also be facilitated.

According to the Government’s assessment, the new system will enable the effective organization of truck flows, reduce waiting times, and maintain the security of the checkpoint.

The bill is yet to be discussed in the National Assembly (NA), after which it will become operational.
