Court changes preventive measure for Samvel Karapetyan
The court has changed the preventive measure for businessman and benefactor Samvel Karapetyan. This information was shared by Armen Feroyan, a member of Karapetyan’s defense team.
According to him, detention has been replaced by bail and house arrest.
As a reminder, on June 17, a search was conducted at Samvel Karapetyan’s home after he publicly expressed support for the Armenian Apostolic Church, criticizing groups that, in his words, are attacking the Armenian Church and the Armenian people. Karapetyan was arrested on June 18. His detention had been extended several times.
The businessman was charged under several articles of the RA Criminal Code: specifically, Article 290 (failure to pay taxes, duties, or other fees), Article 296 (money laundering), and Article 422 (public calls for seizing power, violating territorial integrity, or violently overthrowing the constitutional order).
On October 13, it was reported that the charges against Samvel Karapetyan had been modified. In particular, a charge was added under points 2 and 3 of part 3 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code: money laundering on a particularly large scale by utilizing official or professional powers or the influence resulting from them.
