Verin Lars checkpoint opened for passenger transport
The Verin Lars and Khachi Pass have been reopened for passenger vehicles. This was reported by the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia. A few days ago, the checkpoint was closed to all types of vehicles due to heavy blizzards and security concerns at the checkpoints.
The Verin Lars checkpoint remains closed for trucks. Traffic at the Khachi Pass is conducted through tunnels protecting against snowstorms. This means that vehicles moving in the opposite direction must wait, which could lead to significant queues in the area.
Verin Lars and the Khachi Pass are of great significance for Armenia-Russia trade turnover. The Ministry also notes that the situation is being monitored, and the relevant structures will continue to oversee road safety, as well as provide timely information regarding traffic changes.
