Rations of hygiene products provided to convicts to be revised in Armenia

The Government of the Republic of Armenia has decided to revise the rations of hygiene products provided to convicts and detained persons in the Republic of Armenia. The corresponding decision was adopted during the government session on January 15.

The changes aim to align the provision of hygienic means with the actual needs of the convicts, ensuring necessary quantities and higher quality products.

For this purpose, as early as October 20, 2025, a circular letter was sent to penitentiary institutions, instructing them to conduct a survey among convicts and detained persons to assess their satisfaction with the provided hygiene packages.

Based on the survey results, it was decided to increase the rations of several hygiene products. Specifically, instead of 40 grams, hand soap will be provided at 80 grams per week; bath gel and shampoo will increase from 20 milliliters to 30 milliliters; and toothpaste will increase from 6 milliliters to 15 milliliters per week.

Changes are also planned for the method of providing certain items. Toothbrushes will no longer be provided every week; instead, detained persons will receive 4 higher-quality toothbrushes annually. Laundry detergent will be provided not as a monthly ration, but based on each 1 kg of laundry at a dose of 40 grams.

Furthermore, the quantity of feminine hygiene products will increase from 10 to 20 per month. There are also plans to provide 100 milliliters of dishwashing liquid monthly, as well as 2 combs per year for both men and women.

Additionally, the rations for certain hygiene items provided to convicts with children under the age of three are set to be increased, taking into account their special needs.
