Upper Lars checkpoint reopened for passenger vehicles

The road leading to the Upper Lars checkpoint has been reopened for the movement of passenger vehicles. This was reported by the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.

On January 13, it was reported that traffic had been restricted for all types of vehicles on the Gudauri-Kobi section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars highway due to avalanche danger.

In the Mleta-Gudauri section, cars can pass without stopping, while in the Gudauri-Kobi section, traffic is conducted through protective tunnels. There is a high probability of queues in this area.

Currently, the road is open only for passenger cars, while it remains closed for heavy trucks since January 9.

The road passing through Upper Lars is the only land route connecting Armenia to Russia via the territory of Georgia. The closure of this road significantly impacts trade turnover.
