Samvel Karapetyan is home again
Following the court’s decision, Samvel Karapetyan was released from the Yerevan-Kentron Penitentiary Institution and transported to his place of residence accompanied by the police. Since morning, supporters had gathered near his house, applauding and chanting his name upon Karapetyan’s arrival.
After exiting the vehicle, Karapetyan waved to the crowd and entered the house. Law enforcement officers escorted him to the apartment, and earlier, employees of the Probation Service of the Ministry of Justice had also arrived at the residence.
It is noted that communication with Karapetyan is restricted in accordance with the procedure established by law.
On January 16, the Anti-Corruption Court of Appeal announced that the decision of Judge Sargis Petrosyan, which had applied house arrest to Samvel Karapetyan, was overturned. Vardevanyan later reported that the businessman’s inpatient treatment was interrupted, and he was transferred to the “Yerevan-Kentron” Penitentiary Institution. On January 17, the Anti-Corruption Court examined the issue of Karapetyan’s preventive measure until late at night and decided to apply house arrest.
