Several highways in Armenia are closed
Due to adverse weather conditions in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, several highways are closed or difficult to pass. This was reported by the Rescue Service.
Specifically, in the Aragatsotn Province, the roads leading from the “Amberd” high-mountain meteorological station to Amberd Fortress and Lake Kari are closed. The Gndevaz-Jermuk highway is closed to all types of vehicles due to a blizzard.
The Vardenyats Pass, the curves (winding roads) of Spitak and Dilijan, the roads leading from the Jermuk intersection to the cities of Jermuk and Sisian, the Noyemberyan-Jujevan and Noravan-Kapan highways, as well as the Yeraskh-Zangakatun section of the Tigranashen curves, are closed for vehicles with trailers and difficult to pass for others.
The Vanadzor-Dilijan and Vanadzor-Alaverdi highways are closed for trucks with trailers. The Stepanavan curves, the Berd-Chambarak highway, and the sections from the M-4 highway to Haghartsin and Lake Parz are difficult to pass for all types of vehicles.
Black ice is present in some areas of highways in several provinces and regions, while snow is falling in the Syunik (except for the city of Meghri), Ararat, Armavir, Aragatsotn, Tavush, and Lori provinces, as well as in several settlements. A blizzard is observed in the Saravan-“Zanger” section and the city of Jermuk.
The Rescue Service urges drivers to travel exclusively with winter tires and to follow road safety rules.
