Detention of the Catholicos’ brother extended by another 2 months
The court of the Armavir region has extended the detention of Gevorg Nersisyan, the brother of the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, by two months.
According to his defense attorney, Ara Zohrabyan, the court’s decision is groundless. He stated that the primary witness in the case gave a testimony in court that significantly differs from the testimony presented during the pre-trial stage. The witness had previously declared that Gevorg Nersisyan had not uttered any insulting or quarrel-provoking words.
According to the lawyer, the same witness mentioned in court that they did not submit the report to the law enforcement authorities of their own free will, but were forced to do so.
Despite these circumstances, the court decided to extend Gevorg Nersisyan’s detention period by two months.
As a reminder, on November 3, 2024, the court detained Gevorg Nersisyan and his son, Hambardzum Nersisyan, for one month. Public criminal prosecution has been initiated against them under Article 211, Part 2, Point 5 of the Criminal Code, on charges of obstructing the conduct of propaganda by a group of persons.
