Alen Simonyan and Sergey Lavrov met in Moscow; details of the discussion revealed
In Moscow, the President of the RA National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the RF, Sergey Lavrov, during which the relations between the two countries, as well as issues regarding the CSTO and EAEU-EU cooperation, were discussed.
Lavrov noted that Russia continues to view Armenia as a partner and ally, is interested in the development of economic and infrastructural cooperation, and will fully respect Armenia’s choice. He emphasized that Armenia can develop its foreign ties in other directions as well, whereas the EU often forces Armenia to make a choice.
“It is a bit strange for us to hear periodic statements about some mythical attacks being prepared from the north against Armenia, or about an existing threat from the CSTO,” Lavrov said.
Alen Simonyan assured that Armenia is interested in ties with Russia and will not take any steps against Russia. The NA President also touched upon the Peace Treaty, highlighting the importance of regional peace.
The NA President emphasized that Armenia’s position regarding membership in the EAEU remains stable, and the country’s goal is to cooperate with the latter without creating contradictions.
“As for the EAEU, we do not think that we should withdraw from it. We believe we can together find a solution that will be beneficial to the parties,” Simonyan said.
During the meeting, the growth of trade turnover was also discussed. Lavrov reminded that during the years of EAEU membership, the trade turnover with Armenia has increased from $10.5 billion to $26 billion, growing approximately 2.5 times.
