Alican border crossing point nears operation

Preparatory works have accelerated at the Alican or Margara border crossing point between Turkey and Armenia.

The Governor of Igdir, M. Firat Tasolar, inspected the ongoing reconstruction and infrastructure works at the checkpoint. Accompanied by a technical team, he visited the border buildings and passage routes, emphasizing that the works are scheduled for completion in a short period.

It should be recalled that the crossing point has been closed to civilian passage since 1993.

It is also noted that the opening of the Alican border crossing point will be significant for the economic development of the region. In the event of its opening, an increase in commercial activity in Igdir and neighboring provinces is expected; transportation routes through the Caucasus will be shortened, and the increase in visits between Armenia and Turkey will contribute to regional tourism.
