Spitak pass closed: current situation on Armenian highways and Upper Lars

Due to heavy snow and blizzards on February 26, the Spitak pass is closed for trailer vehicles. This information was reported by the “Road Department” Fund.

At the same time, it is noted that all other interstate and republican highways in Armenia remain open. Light snow is falling in the regions of Dilijan, Spitak, Tashir, Ani, Ashotsk, Aparan, and Aragats, as well as at the Vardenyats pass, while the Tavush region is experiencing sleet. Rain is reported in the regions of Talin, Tumanyan, and Noyemberyan.

Fog is present on the highways of the Tavush region, with visibility ranging from 80-100 meters. Dense fog is also reported at the Dilijan pass, where visibility is reduced to 10-20 meters.

The Upper Lars checkpoint is closed for all types of vehicles, according to the Road Department of Georgia.

Earlier, the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia reported that due to the penetration of an active cyclone from the west, precipitation is expected in most regions of Armenia from late evening on February 26 through February 27-28. On February 27-28, precipitation across the entire republic will be in the form of snow, and in some valley regions, in the form of sleet.
