RA and RF officials discuss railway infrastructure issues

Armen Simonyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the RA, received a delegation led by Dmitry Zverev, Deputy Minister of Transport of the RF.

During the meeting, issues regarding the restoration and construction of the “Gyumri–Akhurik–Border of the Republic of Turkey” and “Yeraskh–Border of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic of the Republic of Azerbaijan” railway infrastructures were discussed. Cooperation in the fields of road transport and air transportation was also addressed.

The parties reached an agreement to continue the discussions.

It is worth recalling that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had earlier suggested to Russian colleagues to sell the concession management of Armenia’s railways to a country friendly to both Yerevan and Moscow. He also raised the issue of restoring railway hubs on the borders with Azerbaijan and Turkey, which have been inactive since the early 1990s.

In February 2008, the Armenian railways were handed over to the “South Caucasus Railway” company for concession management for a period of 30 years, with the right to extend for another 10 years.
