Three more defendants in the March 1 case
On March 6, 2026, the prosecutor, with a confirmed indictment, submitted to the court the materials of the criminal proceedings concerning three more defendants in the March 1 case: Robert Melkonyan, who held the position of Commander of the Patrol-Guard Service Regiment of the Yerevan City Department of the RA Police in 2008, his deputy Valeriy Osipyan, and the commander of a company of the same regiment, Karen Movsisyan.
The aforementioned officials, in complicity with the Deputy Chief of Police and officers of the units under their command, on March 1, 2008, at around 06:30, exceeded the scope of their powers and dispersed the sit-in strike using violence and illegal special means, forcing hundreds of protesters to leave their tents.
It should be recalled that on March 3, 2026, the case of another defendant of March 1, Hovhannes Tamamyan, the First Deputy Head of the General Department of Criminal Intelligence of the RA Police, was sent to court. Additionally, on January 9, 2026, with a confirmed indictment, the case of Sasha Afyan, the former Deputy Chief of Police, was also submitted to the court.
Within the framework of the investigation into the March 1 events, the process of submitting criminal proceedings against the defendants to the court continues.
