The NA Healthcare Committee has a new chair
The Standing Committee on Healthcare Issues of the RA National Assembly has a new chairperson. Vanik Ohanyan, an MP from the “Civil Contract” faction, was elected as the committee chair via a closed secret ballot.
According to Narek Babayan, chair of the Counting Commission, 64 out of 107 MPs participated in the voting. All 64 MPs voted in favor of Ohanyan’s candidacy. No invalid ballots were recorded.
The newly elected committee chair is a dentist by profession. Between 2024 and 2025, he held the position of director of the “Vanadzor Polyclinic No. 5” SCJSC.
As a reminder, the position of committee chair had remained vacant since January 21 of this year, following the resignation of Hripsime Hunanyan.
Hunanyan found herself at the center of a scandal when she attempted to defend RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s anti-church campaign, stating: “If the Catholicos is a saint, then I am Saint Virgin Hripsime, and my son’s father is Saint Sarkis.”
Recently, Hunanyan declared in the National Assembly: “Our state does not only need soldiers; our state also needs heads [intellects].”
