Edward Asryan Assures There Is No Risk of Military Escalation
During a briefing, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Edward Asryan, assured that there is currently no risk of military escalation and expressed confidence that it will be possible to restore the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia through a peaceful process.
At present, there are no threats; the situation on the borders is assessed as relatively stable.
Asryan noted that Armenia should reclaim its occupied territories through non-military means.
There is an ongoing demarcation process. As part of this process, the goal is to restore the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia within the appropriate borders. He expressed confidence that this could be achieved through peaceful means.
Ministry of Defense spokesperson Aram Torosyan stated that, in the reporting period of 2024 and compared to the previous year, 2023, the number of deaths in the army has nearly halved. This year, 33 deaths have been recorded, 7 of which were unrelated to service.
The Chief of the General Staff also addressed the issue of deaths.
We are all, starting with myself, carrying out all preventive work and measures. We must also understand that the army is susceptible to negative behaviors from society, which can infiltrate on a daily basis. Our primary focus is to uproot these negative behaviors within the army.
Asryan emphasized that soldiers come from diverse backgrounds, each with different upbringing, which can impact their behavior in the military.
These behaviors continue in the army because there are shortcomings in addressing them, and some soldiers also possess these habits, which need to be eliminated. It is a challenging process, one that is being implemented gradually.
