19,470 People Fined for Jaywalking in 2024, Collecting 63.85 Million Drams

In 2024, the Patrol Service of Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs issued 19,470 citations for pedestrians crossing streets at unauthorized locations. This was according to a statement from the ministry.

The total amount collected from these violations was 63,852,942 drams. In the same year, 27,457 violations were recorded, resulting in a total of 107,276,500 drams in fines.

Arpine Sargsyan, Minister of Internal Affairs, stated that the number of recorded violations could have been significantly higher with more intensive efforts in this area.

The minister previously discussed the fine amounts, emphasizing that the goal is not to increase fines but to foster a culture of safety among the population. She highlighted that seemingly minor jaywalking violations often lead to fatal accidents.

A civic initiative is currently under consideration to increase the penalties for pedestrians who fail to use designated crossing areas.
