Major theft in Spitak: 7 individuals detained, 1 under house arrest

Members of a criminal organization in the city of Spitak illegally entered an apartment and committed a particularly large-scale theft. This information was reported by the RA Investigative Committee.

According to the investigation, the incident took place on March 3. During the investigative actions, it was revealed that one of the members of the criminal group had a close relationship with the victim and was informed in advance that the latter would be away from home to celebrate their birthday. He also learned about the money, expensive jewelry, and other valuables kept in the apartment.

This information was passed on to other members of the criminal group, and possible escape routes were pre-selected.

As a result of searches conducted in the suspects’ apartments and the vehicles they used, part of the stolen property was discovered. Law enforcement officers also found tools used for committing burglaries, devices for opening apartment doors, and communication equipment.

During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings, public criminal prosecution was initiated against 8 individuals. Seven of them were charged under the article for particularly large-scale theft committed by illegal entry into an apartment and by a group of persons with prior agreement, as well as the article for theft of firearms, their main components, ammunition, explosives, or explosive devices. Another individual was charged with aiding and abetting particularly large-scale theft and aiding and abetting the theft of firearms, their main components, ammunition, explosives, or explosive devices by a group of persons with prior agreement.

By court decision, detention was applied as a preventive measure against 7 individuals, while house arrest and a ban on absence were applied to one individual.

During the investigation, data were also obtained suggesting that the members of the criminal group may have been involved in various crimes in the past. Investigative actions are ongoing to clarify all circumstances of the case and to uncover other possible crimes committed by the group.
