A volcano has erupted in Iceland

The 7th eruption of a volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula in 2024. Guests at the “Blue Lagoon” geothermal spa have been evacuated. However, flights within the country have not been canceled.

Around 3,800 residents of Grindavik, a town near the volcano, had previously left their homes due to the constant eruptions of the volcano.

Iceland has about 30 active volcanoes. The main reason for this is that the country is located at the junction of two massive Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. These plates are slowly moving apart, causing cracks to form in the Earth’s crust. Through these cracks, magma (molten rock) rises to the surface, creating volcanoes.
