Representatives of Armenia’s men’s boxing team will once again compete in the professional ring.

Elina Avanesyan, representing Armenia, began the WTA-250 series tournament in Hobart, Australia, with a victory.

Armenian grandmasters concluded their performances in the World Blitz Chess Championship held in New York. The champions of the blitz chess tournament were former World Champion Magnus Carlsen from Norway and Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi. In the women’s competition, Chinese grandmaster Ju Wenjun emerged victorious.

According to the results of the 2024 Armenia’s Best Footballer voting, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the Armenian midfielder of Milan’s “Inter,” has been named Armenia’s Best Footballer.

Based on the results of the 2024 Armenia’s Best Coach voting, Yeghishe Melikyan, the head coach of the current champion “Pyunik,” has been named the best coach of the year.

During a press conference, Pashik Alaverdyan, the head coach of Armenia’s men’s weightlifting team and Secretary General of the Weightlifting Federation, summarized the results of 2024. According to the head coach, the year was medal-rich and successful, as Armenia participated in 5 major tournaments. The athlets returned home with 136 medals from that competitions. Alaverdyan added that the year was particularly significant as Armenia won its first-ever gold medal in the super heavyweight category at the World Weightlifting Championships.

The newly crowned world champion, Varazdat Lalayan, has received congratulations from Lasha Talakhadze, a three-time Olympic champion and seven-time World and European champion from Georgia.

Varazdat Lalayan, silver medalist of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, reigning European and world champion in weightlifting, has been awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of Armenia. The award was presented by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan. Deputy Minister Karen Giloyan also attended the meeting.
