Arno Babajanyan’s 105th birth anniversary commemorated
January 22 marks the 105th birth anniversary of the renowned Armenian composer, pianist, and People’s Artist of the USSR, Arno Babajanyan.
The composer made a significant contribution to Armenian classical and jazz music. He authored musicals such as “Uncle Baghdasar,” “The Bride from the North,” and “My Heart is in the Highlands,” as well as “Heroic Ballade” for piano and orchestra, the Piano Trio, the “Six Pictures” piano suite, and numerous other works. His “Poem” was included in the program of the Third International Tchaikovsky Competition as a mandatory piece.
Babajanyan also further developed the creative legacy and experiences of Sergei Rachmaninoff and Aram Khachaturian.
The composer passed away on November 11, 1983, due to complications arising from leukemia. His compositions continue to influence both Armenian and international musical culture.
Daniel Danielyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the RA; Artyom Naghdyan, Director of the State Philharmonia of Armenia; Samvel Mesropyan, Director of the Arno Babajanyan Cultural Foundation; Artyom Harutyunyan, Director of the Yerevan Arno Babajanyan State Musical-Pedagogical College, along with the college’s lecturers and students, as well as a group of artists, laid flowers at the composer’s monument.
