Academic City Receives Support from International Universities

The decision to relocate most of Armenia’s more than 60 higher education institutions to the “Academic City” has received support from international universities. Specifically, the University of the Arts London (UAL), the Institute of Education at University College London (UCL), and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) are providing assistance in the development of educational clusters, modernization of programs, and expansion of technological capacities. Last year, Frederike Hettinger, Executive Director of TUM, signed a memorandum of understanding and agreed to collaborate on developing a technological cluster within the Academic City project.

Negotiations are also underway with Complutense University of Madrid in Spain and Seoul National University in South Korea to potentially conclude cooperation agreements in the future.

The project aims to establish “at least four universities” capable of competing for spots in the top 500 of global university rankings. The first students are expected to move to the new campus by 2030.

Most students will live in on-campus dormitories. Residential areas will also be available for professors and short-term visitors, alongside facilities such as a cinema, theater, and other recreational spaces.
