Hasmik Poghosyan found guilty, but released from imprisonment under amnesty

By the verdict of the Anti-Corruption Criminal Court, the former Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, Hasmik Poghosyan, has been found guilty of abuse of official powers and aiding and abetting large-scale fraud. She was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months of imprisonment but was released from serving the term.

The court applied the 2018 Law on Amnesty to Hasmik Poghosyan, as the criminal acts attributed to her were committed between 2012 and 2016, prior to the amnesty coming into force. The judicial act has entered into legal force as of today.

According to the indictment, Hasmik Poghosyan aided in the embezzlement of a 300-square-meter plot of land from the “Yerevan Tchaikovsky Secondary Music School” SNCO (State Non-Commercial Organization). Within the framework of the case, the ownership rights to a 235.8-square-meter area within the complex built at 36/3 Koghbatsi Street in Yerevan have already been returned to the state.
