Annular solar eclipse will not be visible from Armenia
Tomorrow, on February 17, an annular solar eclipse will take place. It is one of the most interesting celestial phenomena, yet it will not be visible from the territory of Armenia. This information was reported by the Byurakan Observatory.
In an annular eclipse, the Moon covers the main part of the Sun’s disk but does not entirely obscure it; a narrow, bright ring remains at the edges, often referred to as the “ring of fire.” This occurs because the Moon is located at a more distant point in its elliptical orbit and appears smaller than the Sun to the observer.
According to Yerevan time, the eclipse will begin at 13:56:26, reach its maximum phase at 16:12:04, and end at 18:27:42, but these phases will not be observable from Armenia.
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, partially or completely covering the Sun’s disk for a terrestrial observer. Depending on the position and distance, total, partial, or annular eclipses are possible.
